In Acapulco, Mexico, a total of 18 men, including 13 federal police officers, have been arrested for allegedly belonging to a gang responsible for various kidnaps and murders. According to Eduardo Sanchez, a federal security spokesman, the gang is “linked to at least seven homicides and four kidnappings, in which two of the victims were killed in a cowardly way.”
Eighty-one police officers have been detained and charged in the last 10 month. Sanchez fears it removes the incentive for citizens to report corruption and said, “the government will not tolerate, under any circumstances, acts of corruption by public servants.”
The detained men face charges of homicide, kidnapping, and drug and weapons possession, and they face up to 70 years of incarceration if found guilty.
