A featured columnist with the PanAmerican Post (see “Rights Watch“), John Suarez has been touring Europe to explain the reality of life in Cuba. Despite well-documented abuses on the island, there is still plenty of external ambivalence and even support when it comes to Cuba, notably in Canada, so John’s work is extremely important. In this case, too, he has accompanied individuals brave enough to share their personal stories.
That includes Yris Tamara Perez Aguilera of the Rosa Park Women’s Movement, and here Suarez translates her testimony in Uppsala, Sweden.
Suarez’s own presentation, also in Uppsala, is below. In particular, he supports nonviolent opposition, in the tradition of Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas — a man who appears to have been a martyr for human rights and democracy in Cuba.
