This morning, Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez had surgery at Favaloro Hospital due to a subdural hematoma (a collection of blood on the surface of the brain). The surgery was successful, and the physicians have released a medical report to confirm that she is recovering well.
Fernandez will remain in intensive care for approximately 24-36 hours, and then she will recover during a postoperative period of 30-45 days, depending on her progress. During this period, Argentinean vice president, Amado Boudou, will carry out her responsibilities.
On Sunday, one day after being diagnosed with a subdural hematoma, the president suffered a tingling and muscle weakness in her left arm. Consequently, her doctors decided to drain the hematoma, because her symptoms indicated that it was generating pressure inside her head.
