Peruvian police found US$3.7 million dollars worth of counterfeit notes yesterday in Comas, a district of Lima. Although he was close to escaping the country, they also managed to arrest the hotel owner in the Lima airport.
The US Secret Service has noted Peru as the world’s leader for counterfeiting, and currency controls in Venezuela and Argentina have only boosted the demand for US dollars.
This was the third major find this year, including a much larger stash of US$60 million in various currencies.
