Shall we revive the ancient custom of drawing and quartering, and apply it to minor offenders such as Eric Garner? Would that please you crazy “law and order at any price” types?
What torment would be too harsh, would make you pull back and admit that “Gee, the police are killing 500 people per year in America, and maybe some of those are unjustifiable; maybe the police are behaving like prissy lords and ladies who demand immediate compliance or else, at any excuse.”
The Chinese have a proverb: “The greater the number of laws and enactments, the more thieves and robbers there will be.”
We must not continue down this road. It is long past time to do some serious roll-back of these laws. Before passing any law, we should solemnly consider that we have just signed somebody’s death warrant. For allegedly selling single cigarettes without paying taxes? That is utterly barbaric.

You think I am angry? I dialed it way down.
