EspañolOn Wednesday, high-level representatives from the Chavista government of Venezuela accused opposition leader María Corina Machado of being the mastermind behind a plan to bring down President Nicolás Maduro with the aid of US government officials.
In addition to accusing Machado and other opposition figures of being “assassins” and “coup mongers,” they identified the US ambassador to Colombia and undersecretary of state for South America, Kevin Whitaker, as actors presumably involved in the conspiracy.
The opposition has repeatedly rejected the charges, which they assure are President Maduro’s strategy to distract Venezuelans from problems such as crime, high inflation rates, and scarcity of basic goods and services.
María Corina Machado said this Wednesday on CNN en Español that today she would present the attorney general with evidence that show her e-mail accounts were hacked in order to forge the accusations.
