The private shuttle service Uber will soon be operating in Guatemala, according to soy502.

Uber’s website now lists Guatemala as a city in which passengers can use the service, as well as become a driver. Doing so requires providing your driver’s license, circulation sticker, circulation card, insurance, criminal and police record, among other requirements.

However, those who try to use the service in Guatemala City will find that the app “is currently not available in this area” — at least for now. Uber reportedly has a fleet of at least 50 vehicles ready to start servicing in the near future.

Uber is a service similar to a taxi transportation but considered much more efficient because of its exclusivity, customer service, the possibility that users grade the driver, and the high perception of security.

In countries where the application works, users often prefer to Uber to traditional taxi services. This has generated significant problems from union of taxi drivers, who feel that the private enterprise is not fair.
