Spanish.- No one doubts the size of the economic machinery behind American politics. It’s just a matter of thorough examination to verify the enormous interest of powerful individuals—who prefer anonymity—in ensuring their favorite candidate reaches the White House. Progressive billionaire George Soros is one of them. If not for his scandalous donations to progressive causes, both within and outside the United States, he would probably still be flying under the radar.
How ever, this time, the name Hansjörg Wyss emerges as the “new Soros.” He’s an 88-year-old Swiss billionaire who has in the past injected around $475 million into American politics and discourse through two nonprofit organizations, according to independent investigations.

“Wyss has used his personal fortune to fund radical left-wing causes and candidates while attempting to avoid any scrutiny or public oversight,” reads a report by Americans for Public Trust, a conservative expert group. A network of “dark money” organizations and intermediaries operates collectively to enable the billionaire to “pursue his express goal of ‘reinterpreting’ the United States Constitution through progressive and leftist policies.”
Obscure Chain of Organizations
He made millions of dollars in the pharmaceutical industry, and according to his sister’s biography, titled “Hansjörg Wyss: My Brother,” he likes to invest in “philanthropic” and environmental causes. But within this halo of mystery surrounding him, there’s a question whose answer isn’t entirely clear: Is he a permanent resident of the United States or an American citizen? In 2021, The New York Times admitted not knowing the answer. What is known is that he possesses a fortune of $10.4 billion, ranking 214th in Bloomberg‘s list of billionaires. It’s important to know if he’s a resident or citizen of the US because as a foreigner, Wyss “is prohibited not only from donating directly to US political candidates but also from attempting to indirectly influence elections,” according to the extensive report. He has directly donated to Democratic candidates and also has at his service two dark money groups: the Wyss Foundation and the Berger Action Fund. Both inject money into left-leaning advocacy groups based in the United States.
In the money trail followed by both groups is Arabella Advisors, composed of multiple nonprofit organizations, which raised “almost $1.6 billion in 2021 alone.” It supports “almost all major left-wing advocacy groups and allows Wyss to indirectly promote his progressive political priorities, such as radical environmentalism and ensuring victories for like-minded Democratic politicians.”

Can Wyss Save Biden?
For now, there is no information on donations made by the “new Soros” related to the upcoming presidential elections. However, it is known that the Sixteen Thirty Fund, a group stemming from this vast network, delivered $410 million in 2020 to bolster Democratic ads against Donald Trump’s reelection campaign, as reported by Politico.
As a result, we’re not talking about a newcomer. Hansjörg Wyss, a graduate of engineering in Switzerland with an MBA from Harvard, has as much experience as Soros in this power game. The coming months will tell if his financing apparatus can definitively save Biden’s candidacy, as the current president is not faring well in the polls. Even the Muslim community, which once supported him, is promoting a boycott against him due to his deep political contradictions.
