Video Captures Mexican Police Handing Arrested Youths Over to Criminal Group

Municipal Police in Sinaloa admitted eight people were turned over because they were under pressure from alleged criminals. (Vanguardia)

EspañolFour municipal police were captured on video in the city of Culiacán, Sinaloa arresting eight people and handing them over to an armed group presumed to be former members of an organized crime ring.

Head of Public Security Víctor Hugo Sánchez Mendieta confirmed that the agents in the video are members of the Culiacán police unit, and admitted they were handing detainees over to gang members amid threats.

Sinaloa Prosecutor Juan Jose Rios Estavillo reportedly said he has already begun an investigation into the event and that the whereabouts of the eight people are still unknown.

 

He also said the agents involved in the incident are being held at Sinaloa Public Security facilities while the case is being processed.

In the material that was recorded last night, eight young people can be seen being detained by the municipal security forces who then handed them over to armed men who were driving cars in which the victims were taken away.

This is not the first time Mexican police officers have been involved in a situation that links them to criminal groups. This month, authorities in the state of Puebla detained local police who had provided information to Los Zetas cartel regarding the assassination of three police officers who worked for the Public Prosecutor.
