EspañolIn the northern state of Sinaloa, Mexico, the number of marijuana and opium labs has reportedly risen, generating violence in the region’s largest town, Culiacán.
These areas have seen a consistent growth in synthetic drug production, according to Military Commander Rogelio Terán Contreras, who said that over the last few years production has actually doubled.

Forty-seven drug labs were discovered in 2014, while in 2015 the number rose to 80. This year, figures are expected to continue to climb, according to the officials.
In Culiacán, around 350 cameras were installed in the attempt to slow drug trafficking activities, but only about 15 of them actually work and transmit a feed to the army or the Marines.
Most labs are found within the city limit of Culiacán, producing heavy pollutants and chemicals that endanger the health of the soldiers and citizens in the area.
In three years, army authorities have obtained 41 kilograms of methamphetamines, as well as 23 kilograms of liquid methamphetamine.
