EspañolVíctor Andrés García Belaunde of the Popular Action Party of Peru, said that ex-Presidents Alejandro Toldedo, Alan García and Ollanta Humala are involved in the Lava Jato Petrobras investigations as well as the Odebrecht bribes.
Garcia Belaunde reportedly said that one of the first things the commission will do when installed in early January 2017 is create a list of names that require further investigation. Additionally, Prosecutor Pablo Sánchez will be the first to meet with senior officials involved in the efforts of the past three administrations.
Much of this will depend on how the investigations progress in congress, as well as meetings with Toledo, Garcia and Humala. In their administrations — spanning 2005 to 2014 — they awarded various public works projects to the construction company Odebrecht.
Spokesperson for Popular Action said that they believe “it will be inevitable to summon them.”
In addition, he said the public minister needs to be present in order to explain what decisions were made in relation to the payment of bribes between Odebrecht and high public officials.
“You have to remember that Mr. Marcelo Odebrecht, the owner of this Brazilian company, is in prison and convicted, and in Peru nothing has happened.”
Garcia Belaunde had previously made his support known for legislator Mauricio Mulder, who was a member of the Lava Jato Commission.
“Issuing that opinion does not disqualify Mulder as a member of the commission,” he said. “In any case, that will inhibit him when dealing with something directly related to Garcia.”
