Sources close to state security told US media that equipment to conduct such monitoring was acquired about two years ago.

The new systems can apparently intercept communications of thousands of people at once under the goal of “combatting terrorism.”

Technology specialists explained to the newspaper that the US spy software is usually installed on computers, tablets, mobile phones and other devices without their owners realizing it, often through software upgrades.
