EspañolA bomb blast near the Military School Station of Santiago de Chile’s subway system, yesterday, has left 14 people wounded, two of them in serious condition. The incident occurred early in the afternoon, at around 2:00 p.m. in the affluent neighborhood of Las Condes.
The current hypothesis points to a sole perpetrator who placed the device — which could have been a fire extinguisher containing gunpowder — inside a trashcan near a restaurant in the gallery that connects to the station.

A total of 500 police agents were deployed to guard access to stations across the city’s metropolitan region, and security measures may well be maintained throughout the week. Aerial patrols will also be utilized in the forthcoming days to assist with the arrests of suspects, if the circumstances require it.
According to national newspaper El Mercurio, a suspect of slim build wearing a cap, scarf, and glasses was captured by the security cameras.
A similar incident occurred on July 13 when an explosive device was detonated inside the carriages of a train in Los Dominicos station. However, no one was injured at that time.
Yesterday’s bombing, on the other hand, appears to be the worst of its kind in the last 10 years.
