EspañolBy Thursday, June 19, founder of Wikileaks Julian Assange will have spent two years at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, having been granted political asylum by the government of Ecuador. He is currently waiting for the British and Ecuadorian governments to find a diplomatic solution that will allow him to leave freely.

On June 19, 2012, the 42-year-old Australian computer programmer entered the Ecuadorian embassy to prevent being extradited to Sweden, where he’s been accused of sexual assault. If Assange steps out of the embassy, he could be immediately detained and turned over to Swedish authorities.

Assange considers his case to be similar to that of Edward Snowden’s, the former National Security Agency contractor, who has currently taken refuge in Russia.

Given London’s refusal to grant Assange a letter of safe-passage, the British and Ecuadorian government created a commission of lawyers to solve the case, without any progress so far.
