EspañolAfter a successful performance on Saturday, three dancers from the Cuban National Ballet escaped from Puerto Rico and headed to Miami, Florida.
Upon arriving in Puerto Rico, the young dancers had had their passports confiscated by Cuban authorities as a security measure. To get them back, the dancers made up the excuse that their families living Miami had sent them money and needed their identification to receive it.
One of the young deserters, Raysell Cruz, said the only thing he regrets is not having fled from Cuba sooner. Raysell’s dream is to develop a dancing career in the United States and be able to dance freely.
The National Ballet of Cuba has been absent from Puerto Rican stages for more than 30 years. In the past few years, many top Cuban ballet dancers have fled to the United States and other countries.
