EspañolLast week in Texas, authorities charged 19-year-old Jacob Lavoro with a first-degree felony that could lead to life in prison if he is convicted. The crime? Making pot brownies for a profit. Instead of a misdemeanor, a technicality in the books allows for the maximum sentence.
Jacob Lavoro, who had a clean record prior to his arrest, sold brownies made with hash oil. Since investigators couldn’t weigh the illegal weed separately, prosecutors counted the sugar, cocoa, butter and other heavy ingredients as part of the drug he’s charged with.
Joe Lavoro, the teen’s father, is outraged. “Five years to life? I’m sorry. I’m a law abiding citizen. I’m a conservative. I love my country. I’m a Vietnam veteran, but I’ll be damned, this is wrong. This is damn wrong!”
Jacob Lavoro and his father are demanding the sentence to be proportional to the crime.
