Uruguayans No Longer Require Visa to Enter United States

EspañolUruguay’s Minister of Interior, Eduardo Bonomi, said on Friday in Washington D.C. that, following bilateral agreements, Uruguayans will no longer need a visa to enter the United States beginning in 2015. Free entry will also apply to US citizens visiting the South American country.

Bonomi said the visa waiver process consists of three stages. Uruguay has already met the first two requirements by dropping the visa requirement for US visitors to its country and by having a less than 3 percent average visa application rejection rate for Uruguayans traveling to the United States. The final requirement for the applying country is to begin purchasing biometric passports, and the Uruguayan government issued a corresponding call for bids three weeks ago.
