EspañolOn Wednesday morning, the Military Police of Honduras forcibly removed from Parliament members of the opposition Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre), who authorities say attempted to storm the building. One of the activists and members of Libre, Rassel Tomé, told the press that authorities could not prevent them from entering Parliament, where Libre is the primary opposition force.
Libre is led by Manuel Zelaya, who served as president from 2006 until 2009, when he was deposed by both Parliament and the military. Zelaya and Libre leaders called for protests against the conservative government of President Juan Orlando Hernández, accusing him of not fulfilling promises made to protect the security of Hondurans.
So far, no injured have been reported, although many were affected by tear gas deployed by police.
