EspañolArgentina’s central government has dismissed a report published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that predicts worsening conditions for the South American nation’s economy, saying it is “ideologically biased.”
During a press conference yesterday, the Argentinean cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich said: “We do not owe a dollar to the IMF, so it cannot condition our economy.” He added that the IMF “promises eternal springs that never arrive, and [delivers] unforgiving winters that never end,” while accusing the agency of creating “the worst social and productive crisis in Argentinean history” with its recommendations.
Capitanich said the IMF’s assessment of Argentina’s economy does not consider the methodological changes introduced earlier this year for measuring inflation and gross domestic product (GDP). Argentina’s Minister of Economy Axel Kiciloff will travel tonight to Washington to participate in the IMF’s annual meeting.
