The government of Bolivia officially declared a state of emergency on Wednesday after two months of extreme flooding ravaged the nation.
Bolivia has experienced heavy rains for over two months, which have resulted in at least 30 deaths and displaced over 21,000 families from their homes. A mudslide in the town of Rurrenabaque last weekend killed at least 10 people, the country’s Civil Defense chief Oscar Cabrera said this week.
By confirming the emergency, Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera frees up at least US$1 million for victims. Regions hit hardest by the flooding include La Paz, Beni, Santa Cruz, and Cochamba.
