Earlier today, the Colombian defense minister, Juan Carlos Pinzón, confirmed a plan from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) to assassinate ex-president Álvaro Uribe. The plan was to be executed by the Columna Móvil Teófilo Forero, a FARC battallion operating within central Colombia, by Hernán Darío Velásquez, also known as El Paisa.
While police and the attorney general’s office are still investigating reports, Pinzón increased Uribe’s security saying, “President Santos has ordered the current security force of former President Uribe and his family, comprised of about 300 staff, to make every effort to ensure the security and integrity of the former president, to protect him and get those responsible for these threats.”
Uribe is currently a candidate for Senate in next year’s elections.
