The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) hosted the 2013 Digital Media Latinoamérica conference in Bogotá, Colombia, on October 30-31. Top media executives from across Latin America attended the event to discuss the future of publishing and journalism in the region.
Event speakers covered topics such as adapting in a time of media transition, entering the realm of paid-content, digital advertising trends and innovations, and the latest tools to foster digital engagement. Speakers included notable authors and analysts like Ken Doctor, Doree Shafrir, and Darío D’Atri.
Doctor, a news industry analyst and author, argued that “in less than four years, more than 500 publications will charge for their digital content.” Shafrir, executive editor of BuzzFeed, said “we think about how the story will be spread, on what social media will it be successful, who will spread it. If the writer of a piece hasn’t thought about this, we send them back to the drawing board.”
