On Sunday, Venezuelan authorities arrested three National Guard officials for alleged involvement in the smuggling of 1.3 tons of cocaine onto an Air France flight from Caracas to Paris. The 1.3 tons of cocaine are a cache record for the South American nation.
Then on Thursday, five more individuals were arrested due to their alleged involvement in the cocaine haul. Miguel Rodriguez Torres, the interior minister, said that in Venezuela alone there are a total of 22 detainees. Eight of the detainees were in the military, and the remainder were somehow connected to the airport or specifically employed by Air France.
