The Paraguayan People’s Army (Ejército del Pueblo Paraguayo) has kidnapped and killed five security guards at a cattle ranch in the San Pedro region, north of the capital, Asuncion. Police officers who attended the scene were ambushed and injured, allegedly by the same group.
This event has been declared as maximum alert, and it is the first major challenge faced by President Horacio Cartes, who took office on Thursday.
EPP is a Marxist-inspired rebel group that has allegedly killed dozens of people, although they claim to target only rich Paraguayans in power.
