Costa Rica’s Foreign Ministry has sent a formal complaint to the Nicaraguan ambassador to stop Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega from appealing to the International Court of Justice at the Hague to recover Guanacaste provice, annexed to Costa Rica in 1824.
Costa Rica has demanded that Nicaragua cease all violations to its territory, which includes Ortega’s attempt to sell oil exploration and extraction rights in Costa Rica’s Caribbean and Pacific waters earlier this summer, along with the constant invasion of the disputed Isla Calero that neither countries can occupy according to the International Court of Justice request.
