EspañolUnited States Senators Marco Rubio and Bob Menendez have asked President Donald Trump to sanction 10 high-ranking government and military officials in the regime of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro.
“Even before the election, the current situation in Venezuela justifies sanctioning some individuals who are responsible for supporting the Maduro regime,” Rubio said in reference to a Constituent Assembly Maduro is convening to rewrite the constitution and keep him in power.
President Trump himself warned Maduro that if he went through with the illegal election on Sunday, July 30, the United States would impose heavy sanctions, possibly on crude oil.
However, Republican Senator Rubio and Democrat Menendez have requested that Trump advance sanctions against the officials, whose names were published in a list by the two politicians.
The high-ranking members of the dictatorship on the list are:
President of the National Electoral Council Tibisay Lucena
National Treasurer Carlos Malpica
Army Commander Jesus Suárez Chourio
Director of the Bolivarian National Police Carlos Pérez Ampueda
Minister of Penitentiary Services Iris Varela
Defender of the Population Tarek William Saab
Vice President of PDVSA Finances Simón Zerpa Delgado
Minister for Food Rodolfo Marco Torres
Director of the Strategic Zone of Integral Defense Carlos Osorio
President of CENCOEX Rocco Albisiani.
All of them could have their travelers’ visas revoked and their assets in the United States frozen.
