EspañolBolivia President Evo Morales has come out with comments labeling the United States as an enemy — this time in response to a large research project compiling a history of US involvement in the country.
Morales recently presented printed research compiled with assistance from new Ambassador to Cuba Juan Ramón Quintana, entitled “A Century of American Intervention.”
The book, which has six volumes, presents data from 1900 to 2000, detailing the many ways in which the United States has been Bolivia’s “enemy.”
“In these six volumes, Mr. President, is the fingerprint, the black hand, the sinister plans that have attacked the viability of the Republic of Bolivia and the plurinational state today,” Quintana said at a ceremony at the presidential palace. President Morales, Vice President Álvaro García Linera and many ministers as well as representatives of multiple social organizations also attended the event.
The book details alleged US interference in Bolivia’s internal affairs chronologically, looking largely at its diplomatic delegations, financial institutions and agencies.
Morales praised the work done by Quintana, who has served in several administrations, and said it would not only be required reading for the Armed Forces, but also, possibly, for students.
“The empire and capitalism do not want competition” Morales said, arguing that the US has prevented efforts to industrialize Bolivia.
“You can only do these kinds of documentaries as a commitment to the homeland,” he said, “so that new generations know what the United States did in Bolivia and Latin America.”
