Correa call the exit polls forged, and claimed that the opposing party knew they were going to lose and would not accept defeat.

EspañolEcuavisa Vice President Alfonso Espinosa de los Monteros responded to accusations made by President Rafael Correa of an alleged “plot” against him.

“We are supposed to say that we have conspired for money to support a single presidential candidate and falsely announce his triumph, which is not be acceptable,” Epinoza said during the evening news on Monday night. “That is a defamation, because in Ecuavisa, we announced the results of the exit polls as unofficial and never named a president of the Republic.”

Espinosa de los Monteros explained that the networks relies on the results of the exit polls put together by CEDATOS, which have been used for the last 10 elections — including the one in which Correa won.

“Never before have there been complaints, worse insults, slander, verbal assaults,” he said. “Personally, the country knows me as a journalist more than Mr. Correa. That’s why I protest, because this attitude is not worthy of a president. I strongly reject the verbal aggressions that I have been subjected to in all these years by someone from whom I have always expected, as an Ecuadorian, to behave a certain way.”

Correa called the journalist “scoundrel.”

“Ecuavisa will have to answer to that story and to the law,” Correa said Saturday. “This lady (Ruth) Hidalgo (of Participation) lied … Citizen Participation is co-responsible for what may happen. This is not going to remain in impunity … They will have to answer all these frauds.”
