EspañolUruguayan President Tabaré Vázquez said he would “respect the decision” of the American voters now that Donald Trump is President of the United States, and plans to publish a statement later in the week.
Chancellor Rodolfo Nin Novoa said in a press conference that they will have to wait to know what action he will take.

“You have to respect the electoral processes of each country and the popular decision of the American people is the one that we accept,” he said. “We will not discuss that. It seems to me that there is a very important world change. The anti-globalization, anti-trade, anti-immigration movements are very strong in the world and this is one of those demonstrations without a doubt,” said the chancellor.
Nin Novoa said he is interested in “seeing how he assembles his governmental team — who will be secretary of state, what his policies will be with regard to Latin America.”
He said many of Trump’s statements about immigrants is worrisome, especially toward Hispanics.
The chancellor questioned the role of pollsters.
“Surveys do not have the capacity to go to the bottom of citizens’ sensibilities and to really know if there is a shameful vote in them that they do not show,” he said. “A few days ago I heard a Mexican political scientist say very forcefully that when a candidate for many months is ahead in the polls, always ahead, they hardly loses. Well, they lost. ”
On the other hand, the former Jose Mujica said that his opinion, in a word says, everything: “Help!”
