To highlight the challenges associated with simply visiting Canada — not to mention complete immigration — PanAm Post columnist Andrew Woodbury shared the story of Sandy Campos. Now married to a Canadian but living in Costa Rica, she has yet to meet her in-laws. Why? Because “the law,” extremely vague criteria, and outsourced visa processing have denied her a visa to simply travel freely and enter Canada.
They told me that the purpose of my visit — vacation — was not valid. They also determined that I didn’t have enough money to cover my costs, even though [her boyfriend’s] sister wrote in the invitation letter that she and her family were going to cover any extra or unforeseen expenses.
Recently, Campos appeared on This Week in Costa Rica with her husband, Woodbury, and host Corey Coates. So if you want a more detailed and personal look into her experience and the victims of these arbitrary policies, be sure to tune in to Coates’s podcast.
