EspañolThe Mexican government has increased its weaponry in order to wage its war against drug trafficking, a Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) study concludes.
The report states that, in the last five years, Mexico has quadrupled its imports of heavy weapons compared to the period between 2006 and 2010. According to estimates, 100,000 people have been killed in the last 10 years in Mexico’s drug war.
“The significant increase is mainly linked to the Mexican government’s war against drug cartels,” the report reads.
Mexico has increased its arsenal in terms of air transport, maritime control patrols, combat frigates, fighter planes, assault helicopters, and armored vehicles.
