It was not so long ago that the Democrats’ prospects for taking both houses of Congress looked rosy. Fueled by anti-Trump hysteria, the hardcore leftist base of the Democratic party was looking like a lock on the House of Representatives, and the Senate was tilting their way. Vulnerable Democrats in red states carried by Trump were performing impressively well, and Democrats had several lucrative pickup opportunities in states as ruby red as Texas and Tennessee.
Then the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation debacle reared its ugly head. Regardless of the American public’s opinion on the credibility of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations, and Kavanaugh’s guilt or innocence, one thing appears indisputable. Her allegations, followed by a pair of more lurid claims by Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick, united the Republican Party at a time when many GOP voters appeared likely to sit out the midterm elections. In a nearly exclusive 50-48 party line vote (only West Virginia’s Joe Manchin and Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski bucked party leadership), Kavanugh was confirmed by the narrowest margin in well over a century.
And suddenly, Republican voters remembered that they liked being in power, and why they liked being in power: to confirm justices to the Supreme Court who cherish an original intent interpretation of the Constitution.
Enter the bad news for those red state Democrats and fresh-faced challengers. North Dakota’s Heidi Heitkamp saw her poll numbers begin to tank almost immediately, with a poll quickly showing a once squeaker of an election now a Republican slam-dunk: Heitkamp was losing by a crushing 14 points. In Tennessee, despite the endorsement of her opponent by pop sensation and political enthusiast Taylor Swift, Representative Marsha Blackburn began to pull away from former Democratic Governor Phil Bredesen.
Of greatest concern to the Democratic establishment and social justice warriors, heartthrob sensation Francis “Beto” O’Rourke remained mired in the mid 40s, while Ted Cruz climbed to the mid 50s, despite a gush of out-of-state money flowing down to Texas from never-Trumpers. Rear Clear Politics moved the race back to leans Republican, and it looks likes “Beto’s” once-golden opportunity has all but evaporated. Despite an impressive effort on his part, there are a lot more Republicans in Texas than Democrats, and Republicans are now fired up since Donald has put TWO justices on the Supreme Court in less than two years.
This year’s crop of Senate Democratic candidates sticks to a time-honored formula: a healthy dose of big government socialism, political correctness, and Cultural Marxism…oodles of promises of new handouts to the non-working and public sector unions, and promises to close Guantanamo Bay, while opening our southern border to unlimited immigration.
And, of course, there will be investigations of Trump and his supposed “collusion” with the Russian government to “steal” the 2016 presidential election.
When it comes to the loony left, though, one Senate candidate takes the cake: I refer to Arizon’a Kyrsten Sinema, who has a lengthy relationship and a substantial outreach effort with the witch community. In an email obtained by the Washington Examiner, Sinema joyously writes of “singing and spiraling in the pagan’s circle only 5 rows back from the police line” during one of her barn-burner anti-war protests. Rest assured, these were witches who only practice “white magic” not the more nefarious “black magic.”
Her enthusiasm for paganism, is mild, compared to her appreciation of socialism and indifference to the Taliban: Audio has emerged of Sinema in 2003 deeming it a “personal decision” to join the Taliban, and saying she “didn’t care” if someone did so.
I’m going to predict that Kyrsten Sinema loses this Senate seat by a modest margin. I don’t see how anyone could vote for someone who said that she didn’t care if people went to fight for the Taliban. Sinema subscribes to many of the same ludicrous conspiracy theories that Alex Jones supports…chief among these that 9/11 was an inside job planned and perpetrated by the US government.
When Alex Jones does it, he gets banned by the big tech companies, which are controlled almost entirely by leftists and the Democratic Party. When Kyrsten Sinema promotes these viewpoints, she gets nominated to run for the Senate in Arizona.
Another, even more disturbing, choice quote from Sinema, involves a letter she wrote to the Arizona Republic: “Until the average American realizes that capitalism damages her livelihood while augmenting the livelihoods of the wealthy, the Almighty Dollar will continue to rule.”
Excuse me? Capitalism and the “almighty dollar” have made America the economic powerhouse of the world, and given us the world’s highest standard of living. Socialism, on the other hand, has destroyed half the world…from Southeast Asia to Eastern Europe, to the Soviet Union, to Latin American banana republics like Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua.
Bye bye Kyrsten Sinema! We can all be glad as Americans that you will not be in the United States Senate! I do, however, suggest that you get on a plane and run for elected office in Cuba, Nicaragua, or Venezuela…countries that really understand the evils of capitalism.
And so, the Senate tilts ever closer to two or three Republican pickups. Right now Real Clear Politics puts the new Senate at 54 Republicans and 46 Democrats: Donnelly and Tester may hang on Indiana and Montana, respectively. Heitkamp is long gone, and Claire McCaskill in Missouri is almost certainly gone as well.
Arizona, Nevada, and Florida are the tightest races in the nation right now…but all are looking a lot better for the Republicans than they were three weeks ago. Look for Republicans to take two of the three…and almost certainly, one of those will be Arizona.
Sinema has tried to bury her past as far-left Green Party activist, and postulate herself as a sensible centrist: whether it works is up to the voters of Arizona, but don’t count on it.
